California homeowners can also look up any contractor themselves on the Contractors State License Board register at cslb.ca.gov, and we would always encourage that for any contractor you are considering.

What paint brands do you use?
Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore and Behr as standard, in any color and sheen. If you have a brand you prefer we will use it and explain what makes the most sense for your particular project.
How big a cabinet project do you usually take on?
A typical project is around 26 to 30 cabinets — which covers most full kitchens, and often a bathroom vanity or a set of built-ins in the same visit. Larger and smaller jobs are both fine; that range is just what most projects look like. Tell us roughly how many doors and drawer fronts you have and we can be specific.
Is it only kitchen cabinets, or other rooms too?
Kitchen through to bedroom. Bathroom vanities, bedroom and hallway built-ins, and laundry cabinetry are all the same work, and it is usually most efficient to do them in the same visit — the sprayer is already set up and the doors are already coming off.
How long will a cabinet project take?
A project of that size is a matter of days rather than weeks. The doors and drawer fronts come off, get sprayed flat and need time to cure properly before they go back on, so plan for the kitchen to be out of normal use for several of those days. Your written estimate will carry a realistic timeline for your particular job.
Do the cabinets have to come out of the kitchen?
No. The doors and drawer fronts come off and are sprayed flat, which is what gives a factory-smooth finish with no brush marks. The frames and boxes stay exactly where they are and are finished in place by hand. Nothing is removed from the room and nothing is replaced.
Will the finish chip or peel later?
That depends almost entirely on preparation, which is why it is most of the job. Kitchen cabinets carry cooking grease whether or not they look like it, and nothing bonds to grease — so they are degreased, then deglossed or scuff-sanded so the primer has something to key into, then primed with a product made to stick to a factory finish. Skipping any of those three is how a door looks perfect and then chips at the handle six months later.
Can you change the hardware while the doors are off?
Yes, and it is the natural moment to do it — hinges, handles and knobs all come off as part of the work and go back on at the end. If you want different hardware, have it on site before we start. New handles with a different hole spacing need the old holes filled before the doors are sprayed, so it is worth mentioning at the estimate rather than on the day.
Painted color, or can you keep the wood?
Either. Painted colors in any finish, or a natural wood stain if you want to keep the grain. They are different processes with different preparation, so it is worth deciding early — a stain shows what is underneath it in a way paint does not, and that affects which doors are good candidates.
Do I need to move my furniture?
Clear small, fragile and personal items before we arrive. Larger furniture gets moved and covered with drop cloths as part of the work, along with the floors.
How long will my project take?
It depends entirely on scope, and your written estimate will carry a realistic timeline for your specific job rather than a general one. Exterior work is also weather-dependent: in high summer the work follows the shade around the building, which is slower than working straight through and is the reason the finish lasts.
Can you paint in the middle of a Sacramento summer?
Yes, with the schedule built around it. Most coatings should not go onto a surface much above 90 degrees, and a west-facing wall here on a 100-degree afternoon is well past that. Paint applied to a hot wall skins before it can level or bond, which is what causes lap marks and early peeling. The answer is to follow the shade rather than to push through it.
How long will an exterior repaint last?
Honestly, it depends on which wall. A north-facing elevation under tree cover will hold its color far longer than a west-facing wall in full valley sun, and a horizontal surface like a deck will not last anything like as long as either. We would rather tell you that at the estimate than have you discover it.
